MITRAL VALVE REPAIR SURGERY IS SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED THROUGH SMALL CUT IN BEATING HEART
Nowadays, many patients who need heart valve repair are undergoing surgery even when it is not necessary. Whereas, you are not sentenced to heart valve replacement surgery. Instead, you can investigate whether you are eligible for valve repair and take advantage of the method. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Cengiz Köksal, one of the 8 surgeons in Europe, who has the authority to perform "mitral valve repair with a small incision in the beating heart", states; "This method which we have been practicing for 2 years is a miracle for cardiac surgery."
Cardiovascular Surgery Department Chairman Prof. Dr. Cengiz Koksal of Turkey's first specialized valvular heart disease center, Bezmialem Vakıf University, Faculty of Medicine, states ; " The surgical treatment performed widely in heart - valve diseases is changing the metal valve of the heart valve. If the surgical option is to replace the heart valve with a metal valve, the patient should be followed up closely and the right time for the surgery should be awaited. Without impairing the patients comfort and implementing them with the risks of open heart surgery in present day valvular disease treatment, we can intervene with a small cut in mitral valve patients, who, in the past, developed impaired heart functions due to waiting for our interventions".
Today, many patients undergo heart valve replacement surgery, even though it is not required. However, in many medically developed countries around the world, appropriate patients are recommended valve repair instead of valve replacement surgery. According to Ceyda Erenoğlu of Habertürk News, the fact that Turkey's valve repair rate is only 20 – 30 percent compared to the world's 90 percent is a great drawback.
SYMPTOMS OF VALVE DISEASES
There are two important symptoms in valve diseases, especially in mitral valve diseases; the first of which is shortness of breath due to exertion, and the second is palpitation. If a 40-year-old patient can easily climb three flights of stairs 3 months ago, and can now only climb two, this indicates a problem and it is noted that this problem is 2 times likely to be situated in the mitral valve.
EXERTION RELATED MITRAL VALVE PROBLEMS DO NOT REQUIRE SURGERY
If the person has mitral valve leak or prolapse, it does not necessarily need to be changed (surgery). Repairing the cap using one's own tissue can eliminate the need to use blood thinners for life. However, patients whose valves are changed need to use blood thinners for life.

REPAIR AROUND THE WORLD, CHANGE IN TURKEY
Under-use of blood thinners may result in a clot setting in the valve, excessive use can cause brain hemorrhage or other types of bleeding. This is like sentencing a diseased patient, whose valve has changed, from one disease to another. Since the use of blood thinners requires weekly laboratory tests, patients encounter difficulties such as visiting the hospital every week. Prof. Dr. Cengiz Köksal states; "If there is a collapse or failure of the valve, get your valve repaired. Today, even though many patients need heart valve repair, they are operated on without the need for it, and patients are sentenced to blood thinners."
CLOSED METHOD REPAIR WITHOUT STOPPING THE HEART
Prof. Dr. Cengiz Köksal stated, "Is there any miraculous development regarding cardiac surgery in recent years? Yes there is. The miraculous factor about cardiac surgery without stopping the heart and repairing through the closed method is using the 'Transapical Neocorda' method. "With this implementation, we reach the top of the heart through a 3 cm incision under the left breast, and from there, we can repair the valve with a device without stopping the heart and lungs."

THE FUTURE OF HEART SURGERY
Prof. Dr. Cengiz Köksal, who is one of the 8 people in Europe who have the authority to practice, train surgeons and authorize trainings, states that the most upsetting thing for him is that although there are many patients who need closed valve repair, those patients cannot take advantage of this opportunity and continued, "I want to inform cardiac surgeons, cardiologists and patients about closed valve surgery and valve repair (Transapical Neocorda). The fact that valve repair surgeries have begun to be as consistent as gallbladder surgery today is a very large luxury for patients. In this sense,  'Transapical Neocorda' practice is the future of cardiac surgery. "
